Over 13 years of chiropractic practice, I've seen a lot of patients who suffer from migraines.  They can be incredibly difficult to get rid of with conventional medical treatments, which basically amount to medications to either prevent them from occurring or reducing them when they appear.  Both of these options are only covering up the symptom of pain, instead of actually getting to the root of the problem.  Unfortunately, these medications have such a long list of side effects it would take me a full page to list them.

Does chiropractic and Active Release Technique treat carpal tunnel syndrome?

I've been a chiropractor for over 12 years now, and I've never had a patient yet that truly had carpal tunnel syndrome(CTS).  I've seen numerous patients over the years who came in for treatment believing they had CTS, but testing revealed that they didn't actually have it.  "True" CTS is when the median nerve is being pinched in the carpal tunnel, a narrow opening at the wrist.  What most people actually have is a problem further up in the arm, nearer the elbow.

The muscles in the forearm frequently get overused with daily activities like typing, driving, writing and assembly line work.  When these muscles are overused, they become weakened and injured.  The body repairs these injuries with scar tissue.  The scar tissue reinforces the injured tissues, but it ultimately glues all the tissues in the area together.  This often times will affect the median nerve and reproduce CTS-like symptoms.  The Active Release Technique is the best choice to break up this scar tissue and free the median nerve.  This can be done effectively without medications or the need for surgical intervention, as opening up the carpal tunnel doesn't help anyway as that is commonly not the affected area.
