Over 13 years of chiropractic practice, I've seen a lot of patients who suffer from migraines. They can be incredibly difficult to get rid of with conventional medical treatments, which basically amount to medications to either prevent them from occurring or reducing them when they appear. Both of these options are only covering up the symptom of pain, instead of actually getting to the root of the problem. Unfortunately, these medications have such a long list of side effects it would take me a full page to list them.

The answer to the question is an emphatic yes! Research has shown that spinal injury can occur in accidents at speeds as low as 10 miles per hour. Any collisions at speeds greater than that should definitely be checked out for possible injury. Most injuries following an accident are to the deep tissues along the spine. This is due to the fact that the head weighs about 12 pounds on average and when you have a collision, the head snaps forwards or backwards, putting an incredible amount of force into the cervical spinal segments.

I recently treated a patient who had severe vertigo following a flight on a plane. When she got off the plane she was so dizzy that she could hardly walk. Her entire vacation was ruined due to the fact she was so dizzy she couldn't do much of anything without losing her balance. When she came to our office a week later, she still was suffering the exact same symptoms that she had when she first got off the plane.

It was just over a month ago when a couple brought in their six week old baby boy who was having colic symptoms. He would cry for hours and there wasn't anything they could do to make him stop crying. He wasn't getting the amount of sleep he required and the whole family was stressed. They had heard from another couple about how chiropractic had helped when their child suffered from colic. They figured it was worth a shot as nothing they had tried seemed to be working.

<![CDATA[Chiropractic took care of more than his sore shoulder!]]> http://hillsidechir.le1.getliveedit.com/Blog/Hillside-Chiropractics-Health-Blog/Chiropractic-took-care-of-more-than-his-sore-shoulder/

A couple weeks ago I had a new patient come in for treatment of a very sore left shoulder. He is an avid softball player who was unable to throw the ball without pain. The pain was affecting his ability to play the game he loves and was affecting his work and home life also.

After examining his shoulder it was apparent that he had a shoulder impingement syndrome going on. That means that the humerus was jamming up into his shoulder joint and making motion difficult and very painful. With the use of chiropractic adjustments and the Active Release Technique, I was able to free up his shoulder and achieve a full range of motion within 5 visits.

By Dr. Jeff Schneider (0) Comments

The rotator cuff is made up of four muscles that stabilize and move the shoulder joint. The four muscles are the infraspinatus, supraspinatus, teres minor and the subscapularis. These muscles are necessary to stabilize the shoulder joint as it is one of the most vulnerable joints in the body. Injuries often occur to the rotator cuff due to repetitive trauma in many sports, but it is not uncommon to have injuries even if you don't play sports. Overhead activity is particularly stressful to the shoulder joint and can result in injury.

<![CDATA[How does chiropractic and A.R.T. help tendinitis?]]> http://hillsidechir.le1.getliveedit.com/Blog/Hillside-Chiropractics-Health-Blog/How-does-chiropractic-and-ART-help-tendinitis/

The condition tendinitis is an inflammation of the tendon, which is the fibrous attachment of the muscle to the bone. Most commonly, the tendon becomes inflammed because the muscle is overused. This overusage leads to scar tissue formation, which ultimately leads to tightness in the muscle and more tension on the tendon.

The most common areas for tendinitis are at the elbow, shoulder, knee and the Achilles tendon. Symptoms are usually swelling and achy pain that is worsened after usage.

I've been a chiropractor for over 12 years now, and I've never had a patient yet that truly had carpal tunnel syndrome(CTS). I've seen numerous patients over the years who came in for treatment believing they had CTS, but testing revealed that they didn't actually have it. "True" CTS is when the median nerve is being pinched in the carpal tunnel, a narrow opening at the wrist. What most people actually have is a problem further up in the arm, nearer the elbow.

<![CDATA[How is A.R.T. different than regular chiropractic?]]> http://hillsidechir.le1.getliveedit.com/Blog/Hillside-Chiropractics-Health-Blog/How-is-ART-different-than-regular-chiropractic/
By Dr. Jeff Schneider (1) Comments

I've heard people tell me many times that they've already tried chiropractic, so I won't be able to help them anymore than anyone else. Well, let me tell you that isn't necessarily the truth. At Hillside Chiropractic, not only do you get adjusted like at other chiropractic offices, but you receive focused Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) treatments to help alleviate the scar tissue that has formed around the problematic area.

See, when there is an injured area the body creates scar tissue to repair the injury. This scar tissue not only repairs the injury, but it glues all the tissues together and causes dysfunction and loss of proper range of motion. When this occurs, your problem area becomes bigger and more severe as the muscles and adjacent joints don't move properly. Regular adjustments free up these affected joints, but the scar tissue remains and continues to affect the joints until the problem returns. That is why combining chiropractic adjustments along with an A.R.T. treatment gets such phenomonal results. So if you or someone you know thinks that every chiropractor is the same, let us prove to you how much different this treatment is.
